Following a 6-7 season in 2024, the NC State Wolfpack has made some significant moves regarding its coaching staff. On Saturday, the Wolfpack fell to East Carolina University at the Military Bowl, 26-21, which is an embarrassment for a Power Five program.

In less than 48 hours, the school decided to part ways with offensive coordinator Robert Anae. Coach Dave Doeren explained the decision as follows:

"I want to thank Robert and wish him and his family the best, I have great respect for him and appreciate the work he has done."

This is the first losing season for the Wolfpack since 2019, and a disappointment after starting the season at No. 24 in the preseason AP Poll. To replace him, the school has promoted quarterbacks coach Kurt Roper to play caller.

"Kurt has done a great job for us," Doeren noted about the 52-year-old Roper, "and knows what we need to do to take the next step forward as a program ... I'm looking forward to seeing him as a play caller."

Roper has been at Raleigh for six years now. Offensive quality control coach Gavin Locklear has in turn been promoted to tight ends coach.

NC State allegedly about to hire D.J. Eliot as their new defensive coordinator

The NC State Wolfpack has one position left open in their staff, that of defensive coordinator. According to ESPN's Pete Thamel, they might be about to close the deal with former Philadelphia Eagles linebackers coach D.J. Eliot.

"Sources: North Carolina State is expected to hire D.J. Eliot as the school’s new defensive coordinator. He’s been a DC at Colorado, Kentucky, Kansas and Temple," Thamel posted.

Eliot started his career as a college football player at Wyoming, where he played from 1996 to 1998. His first coaching gig was at his alma mater where he started as a graduate assistant in 1999.
