The Nebraska Cornhuskers will have a new quarterback in 2024. Nebraska had three different starters in 2023 in Heinrich Haarberg, Chubba Purdy and Jeff Sims, and only Haarberg remains with the team.
Entering 2024, Nebraska head coach Matt Rhule landed a top recruit in Dylan Raiola to help cement their quarterback room. Here's a look at who will be the Cornhuskers' starting quarterback in 2024.
Who will be Matt Rhule's QB1 at Nebraska in 2024?
Dylan Raiola will be the Nebraska Cornhuskers starting quarterback in 2024 as a freshman. Raiola was the top high school recruit and committed to Nebraska to start as a true freshman.
Although Matt Rhule hasn't officially named Raiola the starting quarterback, all signs point to that happening.
"I think whoever goes on the field will be way more prepared because there's no days off right now," Rhule said, via 247Sports. "If you have a bad day, someone's gonna jump at you. They're all three lead competitors."
Raiola will have pressure on him as he is considered the top quarterback prospect and will have pressure to have success right away as a freshman. But Rhule has been impressed with Raiola's play.
"Dylan comes in as a young player, but he understands that its a 24 hour a day deal to be the starting quarterback at a place like Nebraska. That background has helped him walk in here in an extremely mature way, and he wants to be a pro. He doesn’t just want to learn the pass plays," Rhule said, via Cornhuskerswire.
"He wants to know how to flip the protections and what are the run checks. He’s up early in the morning and working at it all the time so I think what you saw in the spring game was a guy who is extremely prepared."
Nebraska's QB depth chart
Behind Raiola will be returning QB Heinrich Haarberg who will be competing with the five-star freshman for the starting job. Last season, Haarberg went 77-for-157 for 967 yards, seven touchdowns and seven interceptions.
The third-string quarterback at Nebraska is freshman Daniel Kaelin who was a three-star recruit in the class of 2024. Kaelin is from Nebraska and committed to his hometown school.
The Cornhuskers will open its 2024 at home on Aug. 31 against UTEP.
