Nebraska started the 2024 college football season on a brilliant note. The Cornhuskers defeated the Colorado Buffaloes in Week 2 to boast a 2-0 start to the season. The performance in the two games so far this season has amazed many raising the possibility of a renaissance.
Joel Klatt expressed his excitement at the new-look Nebraska Cornhuskers on Tuesday. Speaking on "The Joel Klatt Show", the analyst sees a program that is on its way to reclaiming its past glory following its performance in the first two games:
“Nebraska was the standard in college football. And their fan bases just have been desperate, hungry for anything that resembles that,” Klatt said.

“And at this point, they're like, 'Just give us something competitive. Just give us something that is not in the middle of our conference. We are a proud program.' And they are. And now they've got something that they can be proud of,” he added.
Following a tough first season at Nebraska which ended with a 5-7 record, Matt Rhule looks to be transforming the Cornhuskers to the team they want to be.
To get back to the pinnacle of college football, Joel Klatt believes they have to maintain the momentum. It appears the Cornhuskers have been able to assemble a team that can achieve that.
Klatt said:
“They just need to show up every single week and look like the team that played against Colorado. You could tell they were highly motivated. They played like it. And I'm here to say that I'm excited for it. I'm very excited that Nebraska is back because that fan base deserves it."
Joel Klatt has high praise for Dylan Raiola
A large part of Nebraska's brilliance so far this season could be attributed to the performance of true freshman quarterback Dylan Raiola. The former five-star recruit has been able to orchestrate the Cornhuskers’ offense by throwing for 423 yards with three touchdowns and zero interceptions after two games.
“Dylan Raiola is very talented,” Klatt added on his podcast. "That's a quarterback that does not look like a true freshman. The way that he moves, his arm talent from every angle, his accuracy, his ability to go down the field, he did not look rattled at any point.
“And it wasn't just because of the lack of pressure in his face. That's just his nature. So, Raiola is doing exactly what he needs to do.”
Nebraska could be a force in the Big Ten if Raiola can keep his numbers up in the backfield this season. The Cornhuskers host the Northern Iowa Panthers next on Saturday.
