Boise State Broncos running back Ashton Jeanty and Colorado Buffaloes dual position player Travis Hunter are locked in a battle for the Heisman Trophy.

While they are not the favorite to win the prestigious award, they are the two best players in the running who are not quarterbacks, the position that normally dominates this conversation.

However, even if Jeanty does not win the Heisman, he is on course for a record-breaking season. That has garnered praise, even from his rivals. This includes Jeff Choate, the head coach of the Nevada Wolf Pack, who will be facing Jeanty this weekend.

In his press conference, Choate said on Jeanty:

"This guy can do it all."

Jeanty is putting up historic numbers.

He has already recorded 1,525 rushing yards this season and has 20 rushing touchdowns. This had made him the focal point of a high-scoring Boise State offense. These numbers have put him in contention not only for the Heisman Trophy but also to break Barry Sanders' single season rushing yard record of 2,686 yards that Sanders set at Oklahoma State.

On the other hand, Hunter has also been the offensive engine on his team this season.

He has recorded a team-leading 757 yards and scored eight touchdowns. But unlike Jeanty, Hunter is also a key player on defense, recording 20 tackles with some being pivotal in Colorado's wins.

While there is a possibility that neither players will win the Heisman, what both Jeanty and Hunter have done this season shows that it is not just quarterbacks who are able to win this award.

Is Jeanty being focused on more than winning the game?

Jeanty's quest for the Heisman Trophy has also been something that Boise State's opponents have been focusing on.

Broncos' wide receiver, Latrell Caples, has told CBS Sports that he thinks the team who are facing Boise State is focusing more on Jeanty's Heisman quest, rather than trying to win the game.

"We're playing conference teams. They're trying to let it hang a little bit and stop Ashton from winning the Heisman. All in all, we're trying to win the game, so we're out there winning the game by executing our fundamentals at a higher level than they are."
"I mean, they're not trying to win, so I would say so. You can't win by putting nine people in the box every play."

This week, Boise State will face Nevada, who, as victory is likely to be beyond them, may do as Caples has suggested and focus heavily to Jeanty.
