Former Alabama Crimson Tide head coach Nick Saban doesn't think the Texas Longhorns will dominate in the SEC. Texas joined the SEC on July 1 alongside Oklahoma as part of the college football realignment.

Many people are interested to see how Texas and Oklahoma will fare in the SEC, but Saban doesn't think the Longhorns will do great in 2024.

“What kind of tickles me is all these people asking questions about how Texas always ran the conference they were in,” Saban said during SEC Media Days, via On3.
“They’re not gonna run the SEC. There’s a whole lot of arrogant people in a lot of places in the SEC. Forget all about that. They’ll be a good team and a great program and Sark will do a great job, but that’s not gonna be a problem.”

It was an interesting take from Saban, and after he made the comments, the college football world reacted to it.

"They never even ran the Big 12," a fan wrote.
"He’s not talking about just football. He’s talking about arrogance in general “running” the conference. Texas has a lot of it, but so do a bunch of other teams in the SEC. Listen closely to what he’s talking about," a fan added.

Other fans, meanwhile, think Texas could surprise many including Saban, and have success in 2024 in the SEC.

"Texas is gonna go undefeated in the SEC," a fan added.
"Texas is clearly an outstanding addition to the SEC from a brand standpoint. Instantly recognizable. But on the field, they have the reputation of a paper tiger. I'm glad they are here and think they will compete but I'm not exactly handing out preemptive trophies to them," a fan added.

Finally, other college football fans made it clear that Saban was telling the truth.

"Saban is my favorite person when he’s not coaching Bama," a fan wrote.
"Texas never ran the big 12! The only thing they ran was their mouths," a fan added.

It was a good comment from Saban that many college football fans agreed with.

Is Texas expected to make the playoffs?

The Texas Longhorns won the Big 12 and made it to the college football playoff last season but lost in the semis to the Washington Huskies.

Entering 2024, Texas is favored to make the playoffs as DraftKings has the Longhorns at -235 to make the playoffs, which implies a 70.1% chance.

In 2024, Texas has notable games against Michigan, Mississippi State, Oklahoma, Georgia, Florida and Texas A&M.
