The Sanders family is headed to San Antonio as the Colorado Buffaloes prepare to take on the BYU Cougars on Dec. 28 in the Alamo Bowl, which will be played at Alamodome. It will be the last game for quarterback Shedeur Sanders and safety Shilo Sanders, as they'll depart for NFL.
Joining Shedeur and Shilo in San Antonio were their mother Pilar Sanders and sister Shelomi. With the game still five days away, on Christmas Eve, Pilar went to San Antonio River Walk to enjoy Christmas festivities alongside her daughter. She shared a video of the moments on social media.
"Merry Christmas Eve. We are at the Riverwalk, you guys, and it is absolutely packed. Never spent a Christmas like this before. I don't know if I trust you," Pilar said in the video.
Pilar has been steadfast in supporting her children, whether it's attending her son's Colorado games at Folsom Field or attending Shelomi's game at Alabama A&M at the AAMU Event Center in Huntsville, Alabama.
Shedeur Sanders shares bittersweet Christmas memories following divorce of Pilar and Deion Sanders
Pilar Sanders was Deion Sanders' second wife after the Pro Football Hall of Famer parted ways with his first wife Carolyn Chambers in 1998. The following year, the couple tied the knot in 1999, and welcomed three children: Shedeur, Shilo and Shelomi.
However, after 16 years, the marriage broke apart as they entered into a messy divorce in 2013 which saw them battle it out in court for the custody of their children.
The aftermath of divorce had its impact on their children as well. Ahead of Christmas, Shedeur Sanders shared Christmas memories in the latest episode of his "2Legendary" podcast.
“We didn’t even get the gifts wrapped up," Shedeur said (32:57 onwards). "Mom and Dad split up, and it was no more gifts wrapped up from Dad. It was straight brown boxes or whatever, just straight up. It came in the mail from Amazon.”
Deion Jr. aka Bucky, son of Deion from his first marriage, defended the coach, saying he didn't believe much in Santa Claus.
“He wasn’t about to let anyone take credit for his hard work," Deion Jr. said. "We don’t even know him (Santa). So it was like, why would I let him take the credit? I did this my whole life every day. I’m the one getting y’all the gifts. Y’all need to be thankful for these gifts. Yeah, so I never believed in Santa."
Deion Sanders had its own way to go about holiday season. Though he never acted as the one believing in holiday spirit, his love for all of his kids is out there for everyone to see.
