Shedeur Sanders is widely anticipated to declare for the 2025 NFL Draft as his college football eligibility runs out this season. The quarterback confirmed his plans Monday in Colorado's practice.
Gathered among his Buffaloes teammates in a huddle, an announcement was made regarding registration for classes that no one was to miss. With Sanders not planning to return to the university next year, he knew he wouldn't be registering for next semester's classes.
Following the team announcement, the quarterback laughed it off as he walked away and made known his plan.
“Man, I'm going to the league,” Sanders said.
The quarterback’s definitive statement has generated a lot of reactions online. Here’s a look at some of them:
A couple of fans were positive about his prospects in the NFL.
"Can't wait for him to light up the league!!" a fan wrote.
"That's awesome. He has a bright future ahead," another posted.
Others see him struggling in the league.
"He gonna be a raider and he will suck in the NFL," a fan wrote.
"QB3 incoming to the league," another posted.
Shedeur Sanders' draft projection
Considering his performance in the last two seasons with Colorado, Shedeur Sanders is projected to be a first-round pick in the 2025 NFL Draft. With his arm strength, accuracy and frame, he is considered one of the most pro-ready quarterbacks eligible for the next draft.
A host of draft analysts and experts have projected him to be the first quarterback off the board in 2025. This includes ESPN draft analyst Mel Kiper, who has a lot of confidence in the Colorado signal-caller.
“Shedeur Sanders has had to survive," Kiper said on ESPN’s ‘First Draft’ in September. "I don't know any other quarterback that could, and still be out there... to keep getting back up and competing. I'm ready to put Shedeur at QB1, I really am, just because of that reason.”
Mel Kiper appreciates Shedeur Sanders' resilience
Mel Kiper does not see any other quarterback like Shedeur Sanders in the upcoming draft. The analyst appreciates the quarterback’s level of resilience behind what has been a struggling Colorado offensive line since he arrived in Boulder in 2023.
"They can't block up front and give him enough to not get hit. I don't care about sacks, how many times does he get hit? How many times is he under duress? And I see him competing and making plays," Kiper added.
"I just wonder how these other guys would fare, and I wonder how, if we had Shedeur with these powerhouses in college football, like Georgia, how would he fare... what would we be saying about Shedeur, if he were playing for those teams right now?”
There's already a lot of talk on where Sanders will land in the upcoming draft. Deion Sanders has suggested Miami Dolphins while a couple of analysts have predicted the Las Vegas Raiders. There's also been talks of other options like the Carolina Panthers and the Cleveland Browns.
