Ewers is the Longhorns' starting quarterback, but is widely expected to head to the NFL after the 2024 season. With Arch Manning waiting in the wings, Simms thinks Ewers will remain in college, but transfer to another school.

He said on Thursday on the "Dan Patrick Show,"

“No, I do not," Simms said when asked if he thinks Ewers will be at Texas before being asked if he will be in college next season. "Yes, I would hope so because I don’t think he’s a guy that is going to go in the first two rounds of the draft. I think he has the potential to be that kind of guy, but I think he’s going to have to show people maybe another year of high-quality football play and all that. But no, I expect the Arch Manning era to start after this season is over.

“In my heart of hearts, I have no inside info, but I think that Quinn Ewers will be playing somewhere else. He is an NFL Quarterback. He needs to throw the ball with more authority. There are too many of these lay the ball up there instead of driving the ball through the target, which he can do. Of course, he can work on his athleticism a little bit too. But yeah, I think it’s going to be somewhere else.”

Simms believes another year would benefit Ewers as he can prove he can stay healthy and work on his athleticism.

Ewers has led the Longhorns to the college football playoff in back-to-back years. Texas will play Ohio State in the Cotton Bowl in the semifinals.

Quinn Ewers has reportedly received an offer to stay in college

Although the Texas Longhorns are still in the college football playoff, it appears Quinn Ewers may not be part of the team in 2025.

Arch Manning is expected to take over as the starter, with Ewers either going to the NFL or transferring elsewhere. According to On3’s Pete Nakos, Ewers has received a $6 million NIL offer from a school to skip the 2025 NFL draft and transfer.

Whether or not Ewers will remain in college in 2025 is to be seen. The quarterback has gone 270-for-406 for 3,189 yards, 29 touchdowns and 11 interceptions.
