Georgia has boasted one of the top recruiting schools in college football over the last couple of years under Kirby. Since the 2017 recruiting cycle, the Bulldogs haven't ranked outside the top-three in the landscape, according to 247Sports, showcasing a tremendous recruiting base.
Ahead of the 2024 college football season, Georgia is set to lose one of the core members of its recruiting department. According to Nick Underhill, Brandon Tamres is set to join the scouting staff of the New Orleans Saints, marking the end of his time in Athens.
Tamres has been a recruiting analyst for the Bulldogs for the last couple of years. He was previously with Maryland before being brought to Athens by Kirby Smart. Before his journey in college football, he worked for The 33rdTeam, a company that provides detailed NFL analysis.
His exit comes as a major loss to Kirby Smart and the Bulldogs ahead of the 2024 season. The program will work toward having a replacement as soon as possible as they intensify efforts on the 2025 and 2026 recruiting cycles.
Kirby Smart excited about Georgia’s 2024 schedule
Georgia has a tough schedule to navigate in the 2024 college football season. The program will come up against some of the best teams in the college football landscape as they aim to once again challenge for the national title they missed out on in the previous season.
While the schedule poses a significant challenge for the Bulldogs, Smart is excited about what the team will come up against next season. He noted that the schedule has played a significant role in motivating their off-season activities and how the team prepares for the season:
“Initially I was wondering how I got that draw, but we’re not one to complain. We’re one to be excited. I think when you step into the shoes of a University of Georgia football player, you accept that challenge is going to be there,” Smart said at the SEC Media Days.
“We kind of embrace that, and we love it. What you didn’t get to mention is we open with Clemson, too, one of the top programs in the country. So we’re really excited about that. I think that motivates our off-season so that we have the right kind of approach to the off-season.”
Georgia comes up against reputable college football programs like Clemson, Alabama, Texas, Ole Miss and Tennessee in the 2024 season. The Bulldogs are 42-2 in their last three seasons, so it's to be seen how they fare with their tough schedule in the upcoming season.
