Coach Prime and the Colorado Buffaloes are in Texas to take up arms at the Alamodome Stadium against the BYU Cougars led by coach Kalani Sitake. Deion Sanders' team finished the regular season 9-3 and would want to finish it on a high by winning the Alamo Bowl.
As usual, Sanders' team has the support of his ex-wives and former NFL players. Former 49ers wide receiver Terrell Owens has reached San Antonio to support Coach Prime and has hyped up Colorado's kicker Alejandro Mata on Instagram. Owens wrote in the caption:
"Mata don't miss!!"
The Buffs have come a long way since Coach Prime arrived in Boulder two years ago. From a 4-8 season in 2023 to a 9-3 season in 2024 after taking over a football program that went 1-11 in 2022, Sanders has had an impact in Colorado.
What to expect from the Alamo Bowl game between Colorado and BYU?
Colorado is hungry for a bowl victory, their first in two decades. They’ll face BYU in the San Antonio Alamo Bowl. The last time Colorado won a bowl game was in 2004 against UTEP.
The game was Coach Prime’s final game with his sons, Shedeur and Shilo, at Colorado. It’s also Travis Hunter’s last game before heading to the NFL. Hunter recently won the Heisman Trophy.
This game is a rematch of sorts. Colorado and BYU haven’t played in a bowl game since the 1988 Freedom Bowl, which BYU won 20-17. BYU had a strong season, going 10-2, led by QB Jake Retzlaff (2,796 passing yards, 20 touchdowns) and LB Isaiah Glasker (62 tackles).
Colorado has struggled in recent Alamo Bowl appearances, but this year feels different. Their 7-2 conference record put them in a four-way tie for first in the Big 12. BYU also had a strong start but lost momentum toward the end of the season.
