Paul Finebaum is blaming Nick Saban for Alabama’s disappointing loss to Vanderbilt on Saturday. The Crimson Tide were shocked in Week 6 as they 40-35 to the Commodores which was a surprising outcome given the team's win over Georgia just the week before.
While Alabama fans have been criticizing Kalen DeBoer since the stunning loss, Finebaum has gone a different route as he believes the former Crimson Tide is responsible for it.
“Nick Saban would have never lost a game like that,” Finebaum said on SportsCenter on Sunday. “He did lose his first year to Louisiana Monroe, but he had inherited a 6-7 team, and he had a .500 team that year. But you know something, I am going to blame this game on Nick Saban.”
“Do you remember what he said? What Saban said two weeks ago? He said, ‘The only place you play in the SEC that’s not hard is Vanderbilt.’ That went up on the bulletin board. They played it all week. So, Nick Saban, this is your fault. You cost your former team the win yesterday against Vanderbilt.”
Paul Finebaum calls Alabama’s loss to Vanderbilt the worst
Paul Finebaum was blunt in his assessment of Alabama’s loss. During his appearance on “The Matt Barrie Show” on Sunday, the analyst didn't hold back from criticizing the Crimson Tide's performance and expressed concerns about their inconsistency.
Coming off a major victory over Georgia, Kalen DeBoer’s team was expected to easily secure a win against the Commodores. However, the team brought out a performance Finebaum described as the most unimpressive in the program's recent history.
“This is the worst loss I’ve ever seen by a quality Alabama team,” Finebaum said. “I’ve seen bad Alabama teams lose, but I’ve never seen a great Alabama team lose like this."
“It’s sending shockwaves through the Alabama eco-system now. For all the good we felt a week ago, the questions that linger in the crevices of Alabama fans’ minds are starting to pop up.”
Finebaum's candid remarks reflect the growing uncertainty surrounding the Alabama Crimson Tide's season. For many analysts, the loss makes it hard to predict what they are capable of under DeBoer and where they could end up in the postseason.
The Commodores entered Saturday's matchup with a daunting record, having lost all 60 previous games against AP top five teams. The 40-35 victory was even more historic and unexpected as they had not defeated the Tide in four decades.
