Nick Saban and the "College GameDay" crew are in Louisiana to cover the game between the No. 11-ranked Alabama Crimson Tide and No. 14-ranked LSU Tigers. On the broadcast before the game, Saban and the crew had the opportunity to speak with LSU head coach Brian Kelly.
Saban asked Kelly about his game plan for quarterback Jalen Milroe, to which, he replied:
"First of all, discipline in pass rush lanes. That's absolutely the first thing," Kelly said. "But Jalen Milroe is a player that you can't let get comfortable. If he gets in a rhythm and gets comfortable – like probably any great QB – if they get in a zone of comfort, you're in for a long day with really good quarterbacks, and he's a really good quarterback.
"So getting him uncomfortable, getting him out of rhythm – then we get into these third down situations. We've got to make sure we're very disciplined in our pass rush lanes."
Jalen Milroe is a dynamic quarterback for the Alabama Crimson Tide and is one of the most effective rushing QB in college football. That, coupled with the fact that he is a capable passer, makes him one of the most difficult quarterbacks to plan for in college football.
The LSU Tigers (6-2) will need to shut down Jalen Milroe and the Alabama Crimson Tide (6-2) if they want to win this game.
How important is this game between Alabama and LSU?
There are few games this season that have been of more importance than this one between the Crimson Tide and Tigers. These are teams with even records that sit right on the border of playoff qualification.
Playing in the competitive Southeastern Conference, neither team is in a position to win the conference unless there are some shocking upsets to teams above.
As a result, to make the playoffs in the new 12-team format, both Alabama and LSU will need to be selected as one of the seven additional teams. Although it is not impossible, it is unlikely for any three-loss team in the SEC to be selected by the CFP selection committee. So, this is a must-win game for both teams.
A win for either program would likely propel them into a likely playoff spot. On the flip side, a loss will make a playoff appearance unlikely. Sportsbooks project a close game that will ultimately be won by the Alabama Crimson Tide.
