Nick Saban's Christmas gift from daughter Kristen Sabanis is wrapped and ready. However, Coach Saban will receive this year's gift with a new nickname written on it. The retired legendary coach recently got the new monicker, “Alabama Jones,” live on television last week.
Kristen Saban Setas shared a picture of the gift-wrapped box on her Instagram story on Monday, giving fans a glimpse of what she plans to gift her father. Here's a look at what the gift to the former Alabama coach looks like.
How did Nick Saban get the name “Alabama Jones?”
Nick Saban got his new nickname “Alabama Jones” on ESPN’s College GameDay show on Friday. Comedian Shane Gillis was on the pregame show as a guest and he gave Saban the nickname while speaking on the pre-game program.
In a conversation with Pat McAfee on the sidelines ahead of the encounter, Gillis, a Notre Dame supporter expressed his optimism for the Fighting Irish, noting that the upcoming showdown felt different. He believes that the Fighting Irish have a shot at the ultimate goal for the first time in a long time.
"Now that everybody can pay their players, Notre Dame has a shot—not just the SEC and Coach Saban," Gillis said jokingly.
McAfee seemed to relish Gillis's jab at Saban, responding with a fist bump. However, Nick Saban wasn’t with them when the comments were made. Later, McAfee brought up Gillis’ remarks directly in front of Saban, adding an extra layer of humor to the moment.
“You called him a cheater earlier,” McAfee said to Gillis.
“I don't think the SEC paid players ever. I'm joking - is this not a fun show? Is this a serious show? Alabama Jones is very serious. Get the whip, Indy,” Gillis said, referencing a hat Saban was wearing that made him look like movie character Indiana Jones.
The moment brought a lot of fun to viewers ahead of the game. So far this season, Saban has found success in his new endeavor as a sportscaster. The former coach has shown college football fans his other side, bringing a lot of excitement to college football fans across the country.
