Nick Saban had an illustrious 17-season stint with the Alabama Crimson Tide. After leading the program to six national championships, he shocked the college football world by announcing his retirement following the 2023 season. Kalen DeBoer was brought in from Washington to be his replacement in Tuscaloosa within a short period of time.
With the SEC Media Days scheduled to take place from June 15 to 18, the Crimson Tide are set to start a new era under coach DeBoer. On Tuesday, SEC Network shared a post to pay tribute to Nick Saban's Alabama career. The network shared a collage of various moments he had with the Crimson Tide and captioned it:
"There will never be another Nick Saban."
His daughter, Kristen Saban, was moved by this heartwarming gesture by SEC Network. She shared the post in an Instagram story, seemingly adding to its caption by writing:
"Ever."
In his final season with the Alabama Crimson Tide last year, Saban secured a 12-2 record. He also helped them emerge victorious as the Southeastern Conference champions while also qualifying for the College Football Playoff.
Unfortunately for Bama fans, coach Saban could not add another national championship to his trophy cabinet as the school was eliminated in the playoffs by the 2023 champions, the Michigan Wolverines.
Throughout his entire stint with the Crimson Tide, Saban secured a 201-29 overall record. Kalen DeBoer has the tough job of continuing the legacy as the new head coach in Tuscaloosa.
CFB analyst confident in Kalen DeBoer's abilities as Nick Saban's successor in Alabama
DeBoer spent the last two seasons with the Washington Huskies, leading them to an undefeated Pac-12 title and a national title showdown against the Wolverines. Despite losing the national championship game, college football analyst Josh Pate believes that given DeBoer's credentials, he can continue the successful run that Saban had with the Crimson Tide.
In a recent episode of his show, "Late Kick," Pate said that the passing of the torch from Saban to DeBoer is one of the biggest transitions in the sport's history. He also believes that the Crimson Tide is projected to be the second-best team in the country for the next three years.
"You may be looking at one of the highest-level handoffs of the baton in the history of the sport. From one icon to another guy whose best chapters of his career may be made in Tuscaloosa. So, Alabama is the No. 2 program in the country over the next three years," Pate said.
It will be interesting to see if Kalen DeBoer can achieve what Nick Saban failed to do in his final season as Alabama coach.
