Nick Saban is set to make a special appearance at the 2024 ESPY Awards on Thursday. Joining him is his daughter, Kristen and daughter-in-law, Samira. Kristen reposted Samira's Instagram story to her account documenting their trip to Los Angeles.
One such story captured Kristen Saban shaking her shoulders in joy. Nick Saban is nominated for the "Best Play" award for the infamous "Grave Digger" moment in the game against Auburn last year.
On Nov. 25, 2023, the Crimson Tide were trailing 24-20 in the fourth quarter. After a bad snap from Alabama, quarterback Jalen Milroe threw and successfully connected with Isaiah Bond on fourth down from the 31-yard-line. This touchdown out Alabama 27-24, before taking home the win.
The other nominees in the category include the moment when Baltimore Ravens' Lamar Jackson caught his pass and ran with it in the AFC Championship against the Kansas City Chiefs, Minnesota Timberwolves' Anthony Edwards poster on Utah Jazz's John Collins and Oklahoma softball's Jayda Coleman's walk-off home run which helped the Sooners win the fourth championship.
Nick Saban to continue his college football career despite retirement
Nick Saban announced his retirement from coaching in January 2024 after leading Alabama to six national championships. On Thursday, ESPN announced that Saban will join the SEC Media Days coverage on SEC Network in the upcoming season. He will be joining Cole Cubelic, Paul Finebaum, Roman Harper, Greg McElroy and more.
Nick Saban's relationship with ESPN is also set to extend beyond football. Earlier this year, it was announced that the five-time SEC Coach of the Year will be offering his commentary on other sports as part of ESPN's College GameDay show.
"ESPN and College GameDay have played such an important role in the growth of college football, and I'm honored to have the opportunity to join their team," Saban said in a statement. "I'll do my best to offer additional insights and perspectives to contribute to College GameDay, the ultimate Saturday tradition for college football fans."
After Nick Saban's seventeen-year successful run with the Alabama Crimson Tide, Kalen DeBoer will take over. It will be a tough task for the new coach but he seems more than ready as DeBoer said in an interview:
“I can’t say I intentionally look at it where you see challenges and you want to go take it on. but when you’re in a spot like this, there’s an excitement of the challenge. That’s what I do enjoy.”
