Kristen Saban is off the pressure of gamedays at Alabama, with her reactions after the Vanderbilt upset showing that. Her father, Nick Saban, left the Crimson Tide in January, announcing his retirement from coaching following 17 successful and dominant years in Tuscaloosa.
This season, Kristen has to only watch her father on television while he analyzes upcoming college football games. The legendary coach joined ESPN in February and became a crew member of College GameDay, becoming a new sensation to fans on the pregame show.
Ahead of another Saturday filled with exciting college football games, Kristen Saban shared a picture on Instagram of her son James sitting on a white chair. She expressed her love for him with a heartwarming message.
“Obsessed with him,” Kristen Saban wrote
Kristen Saban on James’ relationship with Nick Saban
Nick Saban has a cordial relationship with his grandson James. In an interview with Lance Taylor on “The Next Round” in June, Kristen Saban gave a sneak peek of what the relationship between the two looks like.
"He's great with Jamie. I think it's fun for him because I have a niece. She's 10 years old, and she was the first grandchild and she was a girl, but now that we have James; he's the boy.
“My dad can play T ball with him in the driveway, and throw a ball with him and do kind of all the boy stuff. So that's kind of softened him up a little bit, in my opinion. And I think he really, really enjoys it." (16:10)
With Saban out of coaching, he's bound to get more time to spend with James and his other grandchildren during the college football offseason. Then, he will have not much to do in his new broadcasting endeavor.
Nick Saban on how his grandchildren view him
Far before James was born, Nick Saban talked about how his first grandchild Amelie connected with him. On his radio show in 2016, he explained how Amelie views him.
"My kids were always afraid of me," Saban said on his radio show in 2016. "And most of the players are a little afraid of me. But little Amelie, she's not afraid of me at all. And I expect her to be afraid of me and she's not. It's kind of shocking, actually.
“I mean, I’m really, really moved by that. It means that through the years, I’ve mellowed enough that some little one that I love isn’t afraid of me. And I really appreciate that.”
James has also grown up with such inclination. The new generation connects much better with the legendary coach, and he’s seen spending a lot of valuable time with them. Amelie and James have become a wonderful part of Saban’s life.
