Alabama Crimson Tide quarterback Jalen Milroe is having a busy off-season and was recently spotted attending the Geico 500 NASCAR Cup Series race where he took a picture with NBA legend Michael Jordan.
On Thursday, the Alabama QB was interviewed while attending the first round of the 2024 NFL draft ceremony in Detroit, Michigan and asked what he would tell his former coach, Nick Saban, who was on the panel of ESPN's "College GameDay." Milroe had a cheeky response.
"Hey, coach! How you doing?" Milroe asked.
Nick Saban's daughter, the fiercely pro-Alabama football fan Kristen Saban, reposted the clip of the interaction between her father and Jalen Milroe on her Instagram stories with the caption:
"I love y'all @milticketfour."
Jalen Milroe moves on from Nick Saban
Jalen Milroe has had a unique relationship with former Alabama coach Nick Saban. Last season was an unusual one as the Tide started without a recognized QB1 with Milroe battling against Ty Simpson and Tyler Buchner well into the season.
Milroe started the home loss against the Texas Longhorns and struggled massively. He was dropped against South Florida by Nick Saban with Simpson and Buchner getting the preference.
The whole team struggled from the beginning of the season and was termed as one of Saban's worst Alabama teams. When it finally found its groove, it was on the back of Milroe's improved form.
The Tide beat the then-reigning national champions, the Georgia Bulldogs, in the SEC championship game and reached the college football playoffs semifinals where they lost to eventual champions, the Michigan Wolverines.
Just as it looked as if Nick Saban had built another great team, he stunned the college football world by announcing his retirement, but Milroe opted to stay at Alabama as opposed to entering the transfer portal.
During a recent appearance on the "Paul Finebaum Show," Jalen Milroe, who joined Alabama primarily for the chance to play under the legendary coach, told how he was dealing with the transition to coach Kalen DeBoer.
“It’s different,” Milroe said. “Coach Saban was a great coach to all of us. He put us in a position to be successful on and off the field. But now with the transition of Coach DeBoer, we’re all just trying to adjust.
“But the biggest thing we have done is just embrace it, embrace change and also try to get better and try to just buy into the process. And we’re doing a great job with that.”
Jalen Milroe finished Nick Saban's last season as one of the best quarterbacks in the country with 2,718 passing yards resulting in 23 touchdowns and six interceptions. He rushed for 468 yards resulting in 12 touchdowns.
