Nick Saban has completed the main quests of his coaching career. From winning national championships to coaching college players who have now turned into star pros in the NFL, the former Alabama Crimson Tide coach will always have a special place in the hearts of his fans.
Although he has moved away from the coaching position, he took on a new job as an analyst for ESPN's "College GameDay." As he enjoys his new life, his daughter, Kristen Saban, got emotional when she saw him singing "Take Me Home, Country Roads" during the pregame show's coverage of Week 1 of college football action.
Reacting to a video of Saban singing, posted by "GameDay" host Rece Davis, she commented:
"This is adorable I die."
The "GameDay" crew is in College Station, Texas, on Saturday, covering the No. 20 Texas A&M Aggies taking on the No. 7 Notre Dame Fighting Irish. The game kicks off at 7:30 p.m. ET and will be broadcast on ABC.
Fans get to see a new side of Nick Saban
After his retirement, the former Alabama coach became a pundit and is ready to talk college football with his "College GameDay" hosts. As fans know, Saban has not been appreciative of the name, image and likeness ruling and has often expressed his views on the matter.
Thus, when given the chance to talk about NIL on "College GameDay," he did not hold back from expressing his honest views.
"If you don't pay the right guys, you'll be s*it out of luck," Saban said.
Nick Saban's co-hosts, Pat McAfee, Rece Davis, Desmond Howard and Kirk Herbstreit, could not stop laughing at his statement. Herbstreit said:
"Congratulations, you just broke the internet."
Nick Saban has been in a jolly mood since "GameDay" started airing. He joined his co-hosts in Week 0 and talked about the start of the new chapter as an analyst. Saban said, as per USA Today:
“You know, I spent my entire coaching career accosting people who speculate, make predictions and ask hypothetical questions. So, now I’m in this world. This is my gig, and it’s hard.”
The seven-time national championship winner was also featured in a new commercial for VRGO. In the advertisement, he plays a host who makes a couple uncomfortable. The viral commercial received much attention from fans on social media, leading him to talk about his role on the "Pat McAfee Show."
"Well, you know, Pat’s my idol. He helped me on TV, sitting next to me. And I was trying to be like him on that commercial. You know, the one thing Miss Terry said is I didn’t have to do any acting in that commercial. That’s just the kind of jerk I always am,” Saban said.
It seems like despite Nick Saban's retiring from the coaching scene, he is keeping his fans entertained via his new projects.
