Quarterback Nico Iamaleava and the Tennessee Volunteers (4-0) are set to play the Arkansas Razorbacks (3-2) on Saturday at 7:30 p.m. ET. Iamaleava has played every game this season for the Volunteers, but after their last game against Oklahoma on Sep. 21, some fans were starting to get concerned about his status.
Nico Iamaleava has not missed any practices since and was never listed on the injury report.
Towards the end of the game against the Volunteers, Iamaleava was getting hammered almost every time he dropped back in the pocket to pass the ball. The offensive line was unable to stop the Sooners' defense. However, Iamaleava was able to finish the game and pick up a 25-15 victory for the Volunteers.
Although he might have felt a little sore after taking so many hits at the end of the Oklahoma game, he was able to recover and will be ready to face Arkansas on Saturday.
Arkansas head coach Sam Pittman comments on Nico Iamaleava
Ahead of this week's game between Arkansas and Tennessee, Arkansas coach Sam Pittman was asked what impresses him the most about Nico Iamaleava. He said:
"He plays within the offense so well. He doesn't make mistakes. He's so talented. he can make every throw. But the thing that you see about him, just the way he carries himself and how he handles the team as a young redshirt freshman."
As much as Pittman is impressed by what Iamaleava does with the ball, he is equally impressed by what he does not do.
"He does what he needs to do. He's got a lot of opportunities to shine in his offense. He doesn't make mistakes. And then he does it at a high, high, high, high level. He's scary because he's not going to make mistakes and he is going to run the offense to a perfection. And for a young guy like that, he's just really impressive."
