The Colorado Buffaloes have been in the news for a lot of reasons, but on Friday night they were for a different reason, as sophomore defensive lineman Nikhil Webb Walker announcede that he was diagnosed with lymphoma and will undergo chemotherapy.
During a team meeting, Nikhil Webb Walker delivered the news to his teammates, and it was filmed by "Well Off Media". They help showcase the program and posted the video on Friday with Walker's speech.
"So that's (what) I've been going through, and that's why a lot of you haven't seen me. I've tried to keep it under the wraps because I don't want to be a distraction to the team. I want to see how you all boys do, what you all do, and just keep winning - conference championship, bowl game, national championship. That's why I've kept it under wraps.
"Just being here, just, like, helped me with the whole process and really just deal with it. I say thank you all boys because you all made it easier on me even though it's tough."
He explained to the team that he saw that there was a bump on his chest one morning but waited about a week to see if it would go away. He would later go to the trainers, and they did a biopsy to reveal the diagnosis, but the doctors told him that it was very treatable.
Deion Sanders shows support for Nikhil Webb Walker
Finding out that a player has lymphoma is scary, but coach Deion Sanders showed support for Nikhil Webb Walker. In the video, he said to Walker:
"First of all, you're never a distraction. You're a blessing, and you allow us to understand what life really is. ... What you're dealing with is real, and the way you dealt with it has been just admirable. We love you. We appreciate you. We're here for you." h/t ESPN
It's likely that Nikhil Webb Walker won't suit up for a game for the Colorado Buffaloes for a while, as we now know how serious his undisclosed injury tag was.
