Iowa (4-3, 2-2 Big Ten) was seeking to recover from its setback against Michigan State as it hosted Northwestern (3-4, 1-3 Big Ten) at Kinnick Stadium this Saturday afternoon. Playing on home turf, the Hawkeyes were eager to turn the tide and reestablish their momentum.

Northwestern has had an eventful season so far, but their momentum stalled in their most recent game, where they were held to just three points in a lopsided loss to Wisconsin. The Wildcats entered the game hopeful of staging an upset against the Hawkeyes.

For the Week 9 encounter, Iowa is favored by 14 points on the spread, with the total points over/under set at 38.

Northwestern vs. Iowa Summary

Iowa secured a crucial win at home over Northwestern on Saturday, taking the team closer to a bowl game qualification. The Hawkeyes were dominant in the game, limiting their opponents to zero points in two quarters of the game and not more than one in the other two.

Kaleb Johnson had an outstanding performance, rushing for 109 yards and scoring three touchdowns. Backup quarterback Brendan Sullivan, who came into the game, contributed another rushing touchdown, leading Iowa to a commanding 40-14 victory.

Iowa was most dominant in the game in the third quarter with the Hawkeyes scoring 28 points while conceding none. This placed the game in their hands while the Wildcats struggled to get themselves into it.

Northwestern entered the game ranked 129th in the nation for total offense and 119th for scoring offense. This was evident in their performance as they only recorded a total offense of 163 yards in the game, scoring just once in the first three quarters.

It’s worth noting that Sullivan’s arrival in the game injected new energy into the Hawkeyes’ offense. The quarterback took the field with 9:25 remaining in the second quarter and made a notable impact against his former team, throwing for 79 yards and gaining another 41 yards on the ground.

Overall, it's a great win for the Hawkeyes after a slow start to the season. They will hope to build on this in a bid to end the season on a bright note.
