Texas Longhorns quarterback Quinn Ewers finds himself under scrutiny again after a rollercoaster performance in the Peach Bowl against Arizona State. He faced heavy backlash following a costly fourth-quarter interception that allowed the Sun Devils to tie the game.

Fans and analysts have grown restless, with many calling for freshman Arch Manning to handle the quarterback duties for Steve Sarkisian’s team. During an appearance on "Nightcap," former NFL wideout Chad Johnson delivered a blunt take on Ewers' predicament.

When Shannon Sharpe asked if Ewers would return to college next season, Ocho said:

“Whoa, come back where? He’s not going to see the field before Arch Manning. If he comes back, it’s probably somewhere else, but I doubt it’s Texas,” Johnson said.

Although the Texas QB had a shaky game against the Sun Devils, he made up for it in overtime. Still, whispers of a $6 million transfer portal offer and Manning’s impending takeover make Ewers’ future with the Longhorns a hot topic.

Quinn Ewers came up clutch for Texas in Peach Bowl OT

Quinn Ewers dramatically silenced critics during Texas' double-overtime thriller against ASU in the Peach Bowl. The Longhorns QB delivered when it mattered most, guiding his team to a 39-31 victory.

The 21-year-old Texas native completed 20 of 30 passes for 322 yards, registering four total touchdowns (three passing, one rushing). The fourth quarter and overtime became Ewers’ proving ground. Sarkisian’s men were trailing, but the QB orchestrated a game-saving drive, rushing for a 5-yard touchdown to push the Longhorns ahead.

Then, with Texas in a do-or-die 4th-and-13 scenario in overtime, Ewers fired a 28-yard strike to Matthew Golden to tie the game.

In the second overtime, Ewers connected with Gunnar Helm for a 25-yard touchdown before converting a two-point play, sealing the win.

“This team’s maturity and composure showed in those moments,” Ewers said after the game.

The Texas coach praised his QB’s clutch performance, saying, “Quinn’s a G, man.”
