Quinn Ewers and Arch Manning have sparked several fan debates on who should get the starting berth in Texas' College Football Playoff semifinal against No. 6 Ohio State. While Ewers is the QB1 for the Longhorns, many have urged Texas coach Steve Sarkisian to use Manning for the crucial game on Saturday.

Former Jacksonville Jaguars coach Urban Meyer also joined in on the debate during an appearance on Friday's episode of "The Herd with Colin Cowherd" on FS1. While Meyer praised Manning, he also suggested that the young quarterback still has to find another gear in his game.

"Here’s the thing about Arch, I think he’s going to be a great player," Meyer said. "I’m about to say something that I don’t want to offend anybody (or imply) that he’s not going to be a great player. He’s going to be a great player. But when I watched – and I did, I went back and watched a bunch of his tape – it’s not like he’s overwhelming yet.
"It’s not like he comes in the game and he just blows the doors off everybody else. So, I don’t see that drastic (difference with Ewers)"

Manning has served as an excellent backup to Ewers this season. Despite the limited game time, Manning has recorded 939 passing yards and nine touchdowns with two interceptions. His rushing game has also impressed many. The young QB has posted 100 yards and four touchdowns on 24 carries.

Manning also started two games for Texas in the regular season when Ewers was nursing an abdominal injury. He led Texas to convincing victories over ULM and Mississippi State.

Although Arch Manning has shown incredible potential, Texas coach Steve Sarkisian will likely start Quinn Ewers against Ohio State on Friday.

Ewers put in a dominant display against Arizona State to help Texas to a 39-31 win in double overtime in the College Football Playoff quarterfinal. The senior quarterback completed 20 of 30 passes for 322 yards and three touchdowns while rushing for a touchdown.

Due to Ewers' strong outing against ASU in the Peach Bowl, he is expected to start against the Buckeyes in the Cotton Bowl.
