Colorado Buffaloes star Travis Hunter and his fiancée, Leanna Lenee, are proof that even power couples face humble beginnings. In a candid video shared by “Overtime” on Instagram on Tuesday, the pair opened up about their first few months after moving to Colorado.
The journey wasn’t glamorous. When they first moved to Colorado in January, they had nothing—no furniture, per Lenee during the interview.
“We had enough money for the deposit but not enough money for the furniture… it was really, really cold. It was snowy,” Lenee said. “Nothing in our house worked either, so we were freezing.”
The couple had to make do with a blow-up mattress, a single blanket and a house with a malfunctioning heater.
“It was like 40 degrees in the house we were sleeping on a blow-up mattress, one singular blanket,” Lenee recalled. “I was in a ball in his arms. He was trying to be in a ball like right underneath me and we were begging each other like ‘please go upstairs and change the AC. Like please go turn the heater on.’
“We were so cold we couldn't even get up and we just froze the entire night.”
Despite the rough start, they found humor in their situation. Hunter, reflecting on the moment, said:
“Yeah, because also it was our first house to be apart. That was one of those ones.”
Lenee and Hunter’s relationship began when Travis was still in high school in Georgia, attending Collins Hill High. Lenee, then 19, met him during that time, and the couple officially went public in March 2022 with a Hawaii trip post on Instagram.
When Hunter transferred from Jackson State to join the Colorado Buffaloes under coach Deion Sanders, Lenee stood by his side, moving with him to Boulder.
