Maalik Murphy has finally taken the next step in his college football career. The quarterback will play the 2025 season at Oregon State after completing his transfer to the program.

Murphy was a coveted prospect on the transfer portal as he was rated the No. 36 prospect on the portal by 247Sports and the No. 3 quarterback. The quarterback paid visits to Auburn and Kentucky and also had a strong late interest from Iowa. However, he will continue his college journey at Corvallis.

The decision of Maalik Murphy has resulted in a series of reactions among college football fans. Following his brilliant performance at Duke in the 2024 season, there was a lot of focus on him in the portal.

Here's a look at some of the reactions online:

"Oh poor Iowa" one fan said.
"The Maalik Murphy era at Iowa was truly a special hour, can’t believe it’s already come to an end" another fan added.

Other reactions to Murphy's commitment:

"Smart move and he can thrive in Corvallis- great college town without the distractions of most places!" a fan wrote.
"Iowa has left the chat. Poverty asses," another fan wrote.
"Great decision young man!" another fan wrote.
"Pac-2 champs for sure next year" one user said.

The drama around Maalik Murphy’s commitment to Oregon State

Maalik Murphy reportedly committed to Oregon State last week. However, On3 reported on Tuesday that the quarterback had not officially signed with the program. Furthermore, he was linked to the Iowa Hawkeyes, suggesting he might still be weighing his options.

This brought in some drama on his commitment decision, with fans speculating what could be going on. His exit from Duke after just a season had earlier raised the rumor of him chasing a bigger NIL package elsewhere, and the drama unfolding further augmented that.

Just hours after speculation arose about his commitment status, Matt Zenitz of 247Sports definitively confirmed that Murphy had officially signed with the Beavers. With the hype around his transfer, a lot will be expected from him next season in Corvallis.

Maalik Murphy’s tenure at Duke

Maalik Murphy transferred to Duke ahead of the 2023 college football season after spending two seasons at Texas. With Quinn Ewers returning for another season and Arch Manning seen as the Longhorns’ quarterback of the future, Murphy decided to continue elsewhere.

Murphy arrived at Duke as a replacement for Riley Leonard, who departed the Blue Devils for Notre Dame. He was the first quarterback under the new coach, Manny Diaz, who joined from Penn State. It was obviously an arena for the sign-caller to showcase his talent.

In his lone season in Durham, Murphy played a role in the Blue Devils’ brilliant outing as they finished with a 9-3 record. The quarterback lived up to expectations in leading the offense, throwing for 2,933 yards and 26 touchdowns. He also recorded two scores on the ground.
