There won't be an Ohio State versus UConn game in the 2025 college football season. The Ohio State University announced on Monday that the Buckeyes and Huskies have canceled the game by mutual consent and that OSU will have a matchup against Grambling State in its place.

According to the Columbus Dispatch, the Buckeyes will pay the Storrs school a buyout of $650,000 for canceling the match. If the encounter was played, it is reported that Ohio State would've played UConn for $1.95 million.

Per the same report, Grambling State will only get a paycheck of $1 million. In the end, this might end up being a fiscally responsible move by the Columbus school.

The other non-conference games in 2025 for the Buckeyes will be the Texas Longhorns and rival state school, the Ohio Bobcats.

Ryan Day on the quarterback situation at Ohio State

This Tuesday, the Buckeyes head coach Ryan Day gave a press conference where he gave the press several updates ahead of the preseason work at Columbus. One of the most important subjects he touched upon, is the QB situation, about which he said:

"Really no update. We've really been busy here (in June) with recruiting. You guys have been following that. But also with our team. But to say coming out of the spring, where we are right now, there's a lot of movement at any position wouldn't be accurate. We'll work hard and there will be a lot of progress made with Mick (Marotti) in the weight room, but we won't really know much until we get into the preseason."

The Buckeyes parted ways with Kyle McCord in the offseason after the signal-caller failed to give Ohio State a victory over Michigan or help them get to the playoffs. So far the prime candidate to take the starting spot is former Kansas State quarterback Will Howard, who arrived during the transfer portal.

The other options for Day are Devin Brown, who was the Buckeyes' primary backup last season, and a pair of five-star recruits in the form of Air Noland and Julian Sayin.
