The Ohio State Buckeyes are set to play the Texas Longhorns in the Cotton Bowl on Friday at 7:30 p.m. EST. The game will be broadcast nationally on ESPN.
The game also serves as the semifinals of the College Football Playoff as the winner will play the Notre Dame Fighting Irish in the national championship.
Heading into the Cotton Bowl, what are Ohio State's odds to win the national championship?
Ohio State's National Championship Odds
Ohio State is -140 to win the national championship, according to DraftKings Sportsbook heading into the Cotton Bowl.
A -140 odd implies a 58.3% chance of winning the national championship. However, Ohio State's odds would greatly improve should it win the Cotton Bowl. DraftKings has the Buckeyes as a -8.5 favorite against Notre Dame should that game happen.
Ohio State is also a 6-point favorite to defeat Texas and has -225 odds, which implies a 69.2% chance of winning the game and advancing to the national championship.
Ryan Day is focused on Texas before the national championship
Although the Ohio State Buckeyes are favored to win the national championship, coach Ryan Day said he isn't focusing on that. He said, via Sports Illustrated:
"Our players, in terms of executing the plan, that's what's most important coming into this week and focusing on the process. We know when we get to this point in the playoffs, we're going to be playing against great players and great scheme, and we know that this offense has a chance to be very, very explosive.
"So we've got to get back to work this week and focus on the game plan, make sure that we have a good mixture of the things that we've done in the past, mixed in with things that are possible change-ups along the way, based on how they attack us."
The Longhorns offense has been solid this season and can get explosive plays, which is what Day is worried about.
But Ryan Day is confident his team will be able to get the win in the Cotton Bowl and play in the national championship game.
