After 10 weeks, the College Football Playoff committee released the first prediction of how the first year of the new 12-team format will look like. According to the guidelines that have been set, the four conference champions of the Big 10, Big 12, ACC and SEC will receive automatic bids to participate in the playoffs.
The remaining eight spots in the new 12-team format will be granted to teams that are at-large qualifiers and the best-ranked group of five conference champions. According to the first prediction made by the College Football Playoff committee, Oregon, Ohio State, Georgia and Miami are the top four teams this season.
The other teams predicted to be in this year's playoffs are Texas, Penn State, Tennessee, Indiana, BYU, Notre Dame, Alabama and Boise State. Colorado, Texas A&M and LSU remain in the College Football Playoff top 25 rankings.
Fans took to social media to share their thoughts on the first prediction of the 12-team playoffs. One fan feels these two teams do not deserve to compete for the national championship this season.
"Frauds: Penn State, Ohio State."
Another fan believes that Brent Venables and his team deserve to have a spot in the 12-team College Football Playoff format:
"Oklahoma snubbed."
This fan did not hesitate to share his thoughts about the Nittany Lions:
"Bruh Penn State is #6 after not being able to score an offensive touchdown in their last game. Complete frauds."
Another fan feels that politics is influencing the committee's prediction of the first year of the 12-team College Football Playoff:
"Too much politics- Alabama & Notre Dame don't belong in the 12- SMU does- OSU & Penn State are too high- Ga should be #2."
This fan feels it is still too early to predict who will be the actual contenders for this season's national championship:
"At this stage there isn't too much to argue about. Saturday will shake this up and the following two games after that will give us a good poll."
Is Oregon the strongest contender in this year's College Football Playoff?
Dan Lanning and his team have been ranked No.1 by the CFB selection committee. And it is understandable as to why it felt so. The Ducks are on a nine-game unbeaten streak in their Big Ten debut.
They also have had a tough schedule so far, emerging victorious over teams like Ohio State and 2023 natty champs Michigan. If they can remain consistent, Dan Lanning and his team are guaranteed Big Ten champs and potential natty winners.
The Oregon Ducks are next scheduled to take on Maryland in Week 11. It will be interesting to see if they can extend their winning streak and bolster their chances of competing in the new 12-team College Football Playoff.
