On Monday, Ole Miss Rebels coach Lane Kiffin was named on the prestigious 2024 Dodd Trophy Preseason Watch List. It was announced by The Bobby Dodd Coach of the Year Foundation and the Peach Bowl. It is awarded to the best college football coach in the country.
The Rebels coach later shared his Monday motivation on X for his Ole Miss team with a motivational graphic, which he captioned:
"Have an amazing Monday @OleMissFB. No sleeping in and wasting away time," Kiffin wrote.
The graphic read:
"Every morning you have two choices: continue to sleep with your dreams or wake up & chase them."
Lane Kiffin claps back at Paul Finebaum
The eyes of the college football world have been drawn to Lane Kiffin and his project with the Ole Miss Rebels after a stellar 2023 season, which saw a second consecutive 10-win season.
The Rebels also recruited adroitly from the transfer portal while returning some of the most important players from last year's team, including quarterback Jaxson Dart and running back Ulysses Bentley IV.
Still, not everyone is convinced that Kiffin is the best thing since sliced bread. In an interview with "Tulsa World's" Berry Tramel, ESPN analyst Paul Finebaum was critical of Kiffin and his coaching methods.
"Everyone in the media, Berry, we're on the older statesman side of it, is in love with Lane Kiffin. They think he's hilarious. I don't think he's that funny. I don't think his tweets are that interesting. And his coaching has been underwhelming at times. So, I'll see it when I believe and I haven't seen enough for me to believe right now," Finebaum said.
Lane Kiffin is known for his mostly funny and sarcastic tweets. He had a zinger for Finebaum on X responding to the comments by the ESPN analyst.
"Why so angry Paul? I think you’re funny. Also [Tennessee baseball] won the Natty!!! How can you be in such a bad mood??" Kiffin tweeted.
On a later episode of "The Paul Finebaum Show," the storied analyst gave a sarcastic apology to the Ole Miss coach after receiving a lot of backlash from fans due to his comments.
“After the Alabama game, I wrote Coach Kiffin off, said he couldn’t coach. Said the Ole Miss season was going down the drain. I was wrong. So, I beg, I beg all of you, forgive me! Coach Kiffin even turned Juice after me. Ole Miss has a great team. Lane Kiffin is the best coach in college football,” Finebaum said.
On3 ranks the Ole Miss Rebels as the No. 5 team in college football after the transfer portal closed. This shows the heightened expectation foisted upon Lane Kiffin ahead of next season.
