It was a barren first quarter in Gainesville on Saturday as Florida and Ole Miss pushed to open the scoring but to no avail. However, the efforts of the first phase helped build the momentum for the second quarter.
The Gators opened the scoring for the game with a passing touchdown a few seconds into the second quarter. DJ Lagway found Elijhah Badgers with an 8-yard pass in the endzone with 14:56 left on the clock.
The Rebels responded a few minutes later with a passing touchdown of their own. Jaxson Dart located Tre Harris with a brilliant pass in the end zone from 43 yards with 12:01 left in the second quarter.
Ole Miss took the lead for the first time in the encounter as the second quarter progressed. Jaxson Dart threw another impressive touchdown pass to Cayden Lee from 22 yards with 9:05 left on the clock.
Florida took things back to level terms some minutes later in the second quarter. DJ Lagway found Jadan Baugh from 25 yards with 6:52 left on the clock.
The Gators scored the first field goal of the game in the third quarter to take back the lead. Trey Smack hit the target from 53 yards after a drive of four plays with 10:57 left.
The Rebels responded with a field goal of their own in the final minute of the third quarter to draw things level once again. Cayden Davis had it good from 42 yards following a drive of seven plays with 0:42 left.
Florida took the lead once again in the fourth quarter of the thrilling encounter with the game's first rushing touchdown. Montrell Johnson Jr. rushed nine yards to the end zone with 7:40 left.
The Gators held on as the Rebels intensified their efforts to get back into the game. The win secured a bowl game qualification for Florida and ruled Ole Miss out of contention for the College Football Playoff.
