Ollie Gordon II is one of the best running backs in college football, as evidenced by the 2023 Doak Campbell Award. However, he suffered an injury late in Week 8 against the BYU Cougars that has fans worried about his status for today's game against the Baylor Bears.

Gordon has not been able to live up to the hype this season as he only has 117 rushing attempts for 491 yards (4.2 yards per carry) and six rushing touchdowns, with 18 receptions for 108 yards (6.0 yards per catch) and a touchdown grab.

Let's take a closer look at the latest update on Gordon's status, availability against the Baylor Bears and what caused the injury.

Ollie Gordon II injury update

Ollie Gordon II was playing well against the BYU Cougars but went down with an injury during the second half. It was not deemed too serious as he returned to the field; however, he walked off the field gingerly to the injury tent before the team called it a night for the star RB.

What happened to Ollie Gordon II?

Gordon suffered a leg injury after a two-yard rushing attempt with 3:03 remaining in the third quarter. He hit the turf awkwardly and walked off the field with help from the coaching staff.

It was a reaggravation of an injury that he suffered earlier in the game, but was able to return with 9:33 remaining in the fourth quarter.

When will Ollie Gordon II return?

Gordon should be able to play without any issues in Oklahoma State's Week 9 game. His name is not on the injury report, so the program does not expect the injury scare from last week to affect him today.

The Cowboys are going to need Ollie Gordon II back on the field if they want to get their offense to the next level.
