Colorado Buffaloes' two-way star Travis Hunter continued his sensational season in the Buffs' 41-27 comeback win over the Texas Tech Red Raiders in Week 11 of College Football action. Hunter registered 99 yards on nine receptions, resulting in one touchdown.
Ashton Jeanty, one of Hunter's biggest competitors for the Heisman had a stellar performance during the Boise State Broncos' 28-21 win over the Nevada Wolf Pack in Week 11. Jeanty tallied 209 yards on 34 carries, resulting in three touchdowns.
During this week's episode of "The Joel Klatt Show," Fox analyst Joel Klatt firmly picked a side in the Hunter versus Jeanty-Heisman debate:
"All due respect to Ashton Jeanty, you're having a great year, but a Mountain West running back is not winning the Heisman Trophy over a guy [Travis Hunter] who's in the Big 12 doing what he is doing on both sides of the ball.
"He's going to be a finalist for the Thorpe Award, and he's going to be a finalist for the Biletnikoff Award, and he might win one of them. ... Travis is doing things that I'm just like, that's incredible, because Travis Hunter is one of one."
According to ESPN, Hunter is currently the favorite (+125) for the Heisman Trophy, ahead of Oregon Ducks quarterback Dillon Gabriel (+275) and Ashton Jeanty (+400).
Travis Hunter on Ashton Jeanty's Heisman bid
During an appearance on the "Outta Pocket with RGIII" podcast in October, Travis Hunter caused controversy with his remarks about Jeanty's Heisman bid vis-a-vis his own.
"Y'all see Ashton Jeanty, but it's not like we haven't seen a running back that's good," Hunter said. "We haven't seen a player that plays both ways. I'mma keep saying that. He has 95 carries for a 1,000 yards. If I had 95 catches, how many yards do you think I'd have?
"If I had 95 targets on defense, what do you think I'll have? … He got double the touches I got on the offensive side of the ball, and I still have defensive stats that's still crazy, and we're only in Week 6. I'm not gonna argue about it."
With the season entering its homestretch, both Hunter and Jeanty have helped position their teams to make a run into the postseason. This will help their Heisman Trophy cases, which will likely go down to the wire.
