The Oregon Ducks are entering a new era by joining the Big Ten Conference. In honor of this, they will be wearing new jerseys, which were revealed on Thursday.
The Ducks' uniform is one of the most iconic in college football, known for its bright green. This new uniform, dubbed 'Gang Green', is no different.
The uniform features the traditional Oregon Ducks' colors of Green and Yellow and have the phrase 'Gang Green' stitched into the inside.
This phrase is a reference to the Gang Green era of the Oregon Ducks in the mid-1990s, where the program became relevant again under head coach Mike Bellotti.
The new uniform forms part of the 'Generation O' series of uniforms that the Oregon Ducks have been releasing over the last few weeks.
This new jersey is the brainchild of Kenny Farr, who has made the Oregon Ducks known for their unique and celebrated uniform designs in recent years.
Speaking to Sports Illustrated about his experiences of working with Farr on the new uniform, Ducks linebacker Jeffery Bassa said:
"It was great to sit down there in the room with Kenny and see everything he had planned for the year. To the little details that he does with what helmet we’re gonna wear, what socks we’re gonna wear with this. It was amazing just to be part of history. I know this is going to be a huge year with the uniforms and stuff like that. I know people are excited.”
Could distance play a part in the Oregon Ducks' season?
The Oregon Ducks are coming into their first season in the Big Ten as one of the best-dressed teams. They are seen by some analysts as a potential candidate for the conference championship alongside Ohio State, especially now that Michigan looks a lot weaker than they previously were.
However, their location and distance from the other schools in the conference could be the Ducks' problem and a massive advantage for them.
Oregon will play five away games this year. One of them will be against state rivals Oregon State, which will require minimal travel. They will also make a visit to California to face fellow former PAC-12 team, the UCLA Bruins.
However, the other three away games will be a thousand miles from home, as the Ducks will make trips to Purdue, Michigan and Wisconsin.
Flying long distances and crossing multiple time zones may have a negative effect on the players and could limit their performances on the field. However, this can also happen to those teams who are from the traditional Big Ten heartlands who are flying to the West Coast.
Every team this season will be traveling thousands of miles to fulfill their schedule. It may be that the conference champion this year is the team that suffers from jet lag the least.
