The Oregon State Beavers will face the California Golden Bears in Week 9 of the 2024 college football season. The game will kick off at 4 p.m. ET on Saturday at California Memorial Coliseum in Berkley.

Coming into the game, the Beavers (4–3, 0–0 Pac 12) were defeated by the UNLV Rebels. On the other hand, the Golden Bears (3–4, 0–4 ACC) suffered a narrow defeat to the N.C. State Wolfpack.

This has been an odd season for the Oregon State Beavers. They have gone from being part of one of the Power Five to having one other member in the conference, as the Beavers and Washington State were the only two teams to stay back in the Pac-12.

The Beavers' schedule mostly consisted of nonconference games against Mountain West teams, many of whom will soon join them in the new Pac-12.

Oregon State has a powerful offense, with wide receiver Trent Walker being the main target for quarterback Gevani McCoy. Walker recorded 468 yards and scored one touchdown from 46 catches this season.

The Beavers' run game is also dangerous, with running back Anthony Hankerson averaging 100.0 yards a game and scoring 13 touchdowns already this season.

Oregon State will carve a path to victory if Hankerson and Walker overcome a strong Golden Bears defense, especially against the run game.

In contrast, although the California Golden Bears are on a four-game losing streak, they nearly defeated the highly-ranked Miami Hurricanes during this period. Then, they lost another close game against the Pittsburgh Panthers.

They looked all set to defeat NC State last weekend, but the Wolfpack rallied in the final quarter to record a one-point win.

The Golden Bears also have a star running back in Javian Thomas. His numbers (437 yards and four touchdowns) may not be much when compared to Hankerson, but the impact he can bring can cause damage.

Quarterback Fernando Mendoza led his team in four close losses against higher-quality opposition. He and California should not have problems with a team that has spent most of its season playing Mountain West programs.
