After an impressive season, Dan Lanning has led Oregon to the Rose Bowl against Ohio State on New Year’s Day. It marks the beginning of the Ducks’ playoff campaign after being seeded No. 1 and receiving a bye in the first round as Big Ten champion.

The Ducks are coming up against the Buckeyes for the second time this season. They won the regular season encounter in Eugene by a narrow margin of 32-31. With the stakes higher at this stage, Dan Lanning said that his team will stick to the same process that got it here.

“You treat it like it's another game,” Lanning said. “Certainly there's a lot of external factors that I think people are aware of and certainly pay attention to. But for us, ultimately, our process isn't broken. Our process has been really good all season. And we have to remember what got us here, what got us to this moment.”

Dan Lanning comments on pressure ahead of the game

Without a doubt, there's a lot of pressure on Oregon ahead of the Rose Bowl. The Ducks have been brilliant this season, and the aim now lies in claiming the ultimate goal.

Dan Lanning believes that pressure is part of the process, noting that it’s something mutual at this stage.

“I think you hope that you can feel that pressure,” Lanning said. “If you're in moments like this, you're certainly going to feel pressure. I think anybody who says they're not, they're lying.
"But that's what you want to coach towards. You want to be in positions where pressure is applied.”

Lanning credited his approach to the lessons he learned under Georgia coach Kirby Smart during his tenure as the Bulldogs' defensive coordinator. En route the 2021 national championship, Smart recognized the need to have the pressure that triggers success.

“Kirby said it before but I agree with him: Pressure is a privilege,” Lanning said. “If you put yourself in a position where you're going to have pressure, that's something you have to be able to handle. And our team's handled it really well so far, and have to continue to do so down the stretch.”

There are a lot of stakes and stories around this game. Considering the talent on their roster, both teams have a strong chance of winning, creating a lot of anticipation for fans. It's expected to be another classic in Pasadena on Wednesday when the two teams square up.
