EA Sports' College Football 25 has been in the headlines even before its universal release on Friday. As per reports, the video game created a buzz before its launch during the early access.
Furthermore, EA reportedly had to increase its server capacity during early access to handle the rush. The developer also announced in a blog post that the game amassed 2.2 million players with its deluxe edition.
This was an incredible feat for EA since the numbers were based only on current-gen consoles. As per reports, College Football 25 is released only on PlayStation 5 and Xbox Series X|S, with no PC port (at the time of writing) or last-gen versions.
EA's in-game statistics showed that more than 700,000 players were online concurrently when College Football 25's early access period began on Tuesday. After the game was released on Friday, it showed that concurrent player count was around 550,000.
In a statement, EA Sports' general manager Daryl Holt addressed the success of the newly-released video game.
"The response we’ve seen from across the collegiate landscape, athletes, creators, celebrities and the core community has been nothing short of spectacular," Holt said. "We couldn’t be more excited to welcome millions more into the game with today’s launch."
Prior to College Football 25, the last video game featuring college football stars was released on July 9, 2013, known as NCAA Football 14. However, following an 11-year hiatus, it's evident that fans have been eagerly awaiting the new series.
