Patrick Mahomes has special message for Miami QB Cam Ward after "crazy play" to survive upset scare against Virginia Tech

Cam Ward and the No. 7-ranked Miami Hurricanes managed to extend their winning streak to five games. They emerged victorious in their Week 5 showdown against the Virginia Tech Hokies in a thrilling contest on Friday night.

A late Hail Mary touchdown by the Hokies that would have given them the victory was overturned by the officials. This led to the Hurricanes emerging victorious with a 38-34 final score despite trailing in the first half. And Ward played a key role in leading the Miami offense to another spectacular win.

Cam Ward's performance against Virginia Tech also caught the attention of three-time Super Bowl-winning quarterback Patrick Mahomes. The Chiefs star took to social media to share his amazement at witnessing the Miami signal-caller's stellar showcase in Week 5.

"Crazy play by cam ward!!" Patrick Mahomes wrote in the tweet.

The Miami quarterback found two touchdown passes in the first quarter of the game to boost the morale of his team. However, the Canes were trailing by seven points (24-17) by the end of the first half.

When the second half began, it looked like Cam Ward found his rhythm as he started showcasing his talents with the ball. He scored a 17-yard rushing touchdown in the third quarter to reduce the deficit for the Hurricanes.

In the fourth quarter, his arm accuracy was on display as he made two touchdown passes to Cam McCormick and Isaiah Horton to finally give his team the lead. After Kyron Jones' Hail Mary was overturned, this performance proved to be enough to secure the victory. Ward finished the night with a total of 343 yards and three touchdowns while throwing two interceptions.

Robert Griffin III praises Cam Ward for Heisman-worthy performance

After the Miami quarterback helped the Hurricanes remain undefeated, Robert Griffin III took to social media to heap praise on him and his performance in Week 5. In the tweet on X, the ex-NFL star called Ward a Heisman Trophy contender for this season.

He also wrote that Ward's decision to return for another season of college football was the right one, as his draft stock will continue to rise.

The Miami Hurricanes are now next scheduled to take on the California Golden Bears. If they manage to remain consistent, they can emerge as this season's ACC champions and secure a spot in the College Football Playoff.
