The college football regular season is over, and analysts like Paul Finebaum are starting to make their National Championship picks. Although the college football playoff won't start for over a week, ESPN's Paul Finebaum has already made his pick to win the National Championship.
Finebaum appeared on the "Matt Barrie Show" on Thursday and shared his belief that the No. 1-ranked Oregon Ducks and No. 2-ranked Georgia Bulldogs will meet in the national championship game. However, he does not think the Ducks will come out on top. Instead, Finebaum favors the Bulldogs to win the championship, despite concerns surrounding quarterback Carson Beck.
"I'm going with Gerogia,Finebaum said (per Athlon Sports). "I know they have more flaws than a lot of teams, and we don't know about Carson Beck's health. He got knocked out of the game even though he handed off on the winning play. The dogs I think are going to win it all." [3:50]
Paul Finebaum picks Georgia to win the National Championship despite concerns surrounding Carson Beck
The Bulldogs (11-2) are one of the favorites to win the championship behind the No. 1-ranked Oregon Ducks. However, there are concerns surrounding them, most notably around the status of Carson Beck.
Beck suffered an undisclosed injury in the SEC Championship against Texas on Saturday, and while he finished the game, his status is unclear for the college football playoff. There are rumors he could miss Georgia's quarterfinal matchup against the winner of Indiana and Notre Dame. Fortunately for the Bulldogs, Beck has an extra week to recover because they have a first-round bye.
Despite having a six-week stretch, starting on Sep. 28 against Alabama and ending on Nov. 2 against Florida, where Beck threw 11 interceptions, he has had a strong season. Outside of those games, he only threw one interception for the rest of the year.
He has played at a high level for most of the year, completing 64.7% of his passes and throwing for 3485 yards and 28 touchdowns. Beck has been an instrumental part of Georgia having a successful season.
Paul Finebaum agrees that Beck is a valuable piece of the roster. However, he also believes that the roster around him is strong enough to win, even if he is not 100% healthy.
