The Colorado Buffaloes have become one of the hottest trending topics in college sports since coach Deion Sanders took over in December 2022. His effect has generated discourse on various issues, including the transfer portal and the charismatic coach's style of management.
In this week's episode of "GoJo and Golic," ESPN analyst Paul Finebaum doubled down on his stance about the relevance of Colorado in the college football picture. He pinpointed the coach's son, telling him off for his comments about his father as well.
“I’m just not impressed with what he’s (Sanders) done,” Finebaum said. “And I started talking about the relevancy of Colorado, and his son got very upset, came after me, and so did others. And my point is it’s about Deion Sanders, it’s not about Colorado. Colorado is worthless.
"They don’t mean anything in the world of college football. Deion does and he needs to show something, and unless he does, I wouldn’t suggest anybody like USC hires him.”
Paul Finebaum doubles down on Colorado coach to USC
Deion Sanders began his Colorado career in barnstorming fashion, winning his first three games before the Buffaloes season fell off the wheels, culminating in a 4-8 finish.
As a result, the charismatic coach has been linked with various elite college football jobs and, in some cases, even NFL jobs. During the SEC media days, ironically, ESPN analyst Paul Finebaum linked Sanders to the USC Trojans job.
The analyst trashed the job that coach Lincoln Riley has done in charge of the Trojans and stated that Sanders would be the ideal fit for the job.
During an appearance on "GoJo and Golic," Finebaum gave an in-depth answer for his reasons for linking Sanders with the USC coaching post.
“I don’t want to back away from anything I’ve ever said, but it was the first week of the SEC Media Days and you guys have been there both," Finebaum said.
"You start throwing things up against the wall, and Lincoln Riley, I probably got a little carried (away with). I think he’s a good coach, I don’t think he’s a great coach, and I think his record in big games speaks for itself. I just threw Deion out there, and that was prior to the reporting,” Finebaum added.
“But in the world we live in, guys in the media world that you both been part of a long time, most of that doesn’t matter," Finebaum said. "It’s how much conversation can you create and in LA, nobody could create more conversation than Deion Sanders."
The Colorado coach has repeatedly stated that his future lies in Boulder with the Buffs, despite his sons likely departing for the NFL via the draft next year.
