ESPN's beloved pregame show, "College GameDay," announced that it will head to Columbia for the clash pitting the South Carolina Gamecocks against the LSU Tigers. The Week 3 clash is an all-SEC affair.
During an episode of "The Matt Barrie Show," controversial ESPN analyst Paul Finebaum voiced his displeasure at the show going to Columbia for the Gamecocks vs. Tigers clash.
“I had callers this week from Columbia say, ‘Hey, when do you think we’re gonna get rid of Shane Beamer?’ They were as down on him as they could be; now they have College GD?” Finebaum said. “Which — I don’t know where that bus was going. Listen, GameDay is great, but the idea that GameDay would go to LSU at South Carolina? I mean, that is one of the more bizarre GameDay choices in its history.”
According to Finebaum, the show was meant to go to Lexington for the Kentucky Wildcats against coach Kirby Smart's Georgia Bulldogs. The plan was apparently ditched after the Gamecocks blew out the Wildcats 31-6 in Week 2.
College GameDay heads to Columbia despite criticism
The last time the show was in Columbia was in 2014, and the Week 3 game pitting Shane Beamer's South Carolina Gamecocks against Brian Kelly's LSU Tigers is a rare occurrence in those parts.
ESPN released details of the show in Columbia after confirming the location of their Week 3 visit.
"'College GameDay' will be held at Gamecock Park in Columbia. The pit will open at 6:30 a.m. ET and fans can line up early. The last hour of the show will move inside Williams-Brice Stadium," the statement by the show stated.
During the episode of "The Matt Barrie Show," analyst Paul Finebaum continued to blast the show instead of rooting for it to go to Lexington for the clash between Kentucky and Georgia.
“I was in Lexington on Saturday,” Finebaum said. “You could go to Auburn, you could go to a lot of places where good football…In Lexington, all the students were asking me yesterday, because Georgia comes there next week, ‘You think GD will be here?’ GD was going to Lexington…For GD to go to Alabama, Ohio State, Michigan, they go every year, sometimes twice; they don’t go to Lexington, but once every 20 years or so.”
It seems as if Wildcats fans will have to wait a smidge longer for the popular show to come to Lexington.
