Lane Kiffin's Ole Miss suffered a loss in Baton Rouge on Saturday. Despite holding the lead in most parts of the game, the then-No. 9 Rebels were defeated 29-26 in overtime by the then-No. 13 LSU.
Ole Miss coach’s daughter, Landry Kiffin, was in the stands to watch the exciting Southeastern Conference encounter. Ahead of the Week 7 encounter, Landry posed with Kiffin at Tiger Stadium. She rocked a blue dress for the game and shared the picture on Instagram.
Landry surprised Lane Kiffin with a special cake after his 100th win
Lane Kiffin notched his 100th win in college football after defeating South Carolina 27-3 in Week 6.
To celebrate the milestone, Landry Kiffin surprised her father with a special cake that had “100 wins” written on it.
Ole Miss was on the route to add Kiffin's 101st win. However, LSU went on to seal a win in overtime. The coach believes they should have won the game.
"It never should have gotten [to overtime]," Kiffin said. "We should have finished it when we had the ball up four with a chance to go down and make it two scores. Similar to the Kentucky game, we put ourselves in a much harder situation.
"Really disappointed, obviously. We should win that game. Kind of commanded the game for the majority of it, but credit to them for making plays in the fourth quarter and overtime."
Lane Kiffin’s message to his team following the loss
Following the loss on Saturday, Lane Kiffin was asked about his message to the team in the locker room in his postgame press conference. In answering, he was direct and honest, emphasizing the emotional weight and pain the players were feeling after the defeat.
"This sucks. I feel for you," Kiffin said. "This is a hard one, and you've got a bye. You don't get to play again [next week]. It's easier to get beat by a couple of scores. This is like our game, and we let it slip away. These are hard. This one will be around forever."
With two losses already, the Rebels now face an extremely narrow path to the College Football Playoff. Their margin for error is virtually gone, and they may need to win every remaining game to keep their postseason hopes alive when they return from an open week in Week 9.
