Every college football fan knows of the high-caliber rivalry between the Michigan Wolverines and the Ohio State Buckeyes. Both these programs met for the first time in 1897, with the Wolverines emerging victorious with a 34-0 whitewash of the Buckeyes.

So far, Michigan and Ohio State have clashed with each other 119 times, with the team from Ann Arbor leading the series 61-51-6. OSU went on an eight-game winning streak from 2012 to 2019. However, in the past three seasons under coach Ryan Day, the Buckeyes have failed to secure a single win over the Wolverines.

To further rub salt in the wounds of their rivals, fans of the Wolverines have been mocking Ohio State on different sports platforms. On Saturday, during the WWE SummerSlam event in Cleveland, one Michigan fan's sign went viral on social media. The placard read the number of days since the Buckeyes defeated the Wolverines.

"1708 DAYS SINCE OSU BEAT MICHIGAN," the sign read.

Ryan Day replaced Urban Meyer as the Buckeyes' full-time coach in 2019. After Day secured a debut season victory over the Wolverines, the game between these two programs in 2020 was canceled due to the rising COVID-19 pandemic. However, between 2021 and 2023, the Buckeyes lost all three games to then-coach Jim Harbaugh's team.

However, this upcoming season could be when Ryan Day potentially breaks Michigan's winning streak against the Buckeyes. With Harbaugh's exit from Ann Arbor and Sherrone Moore taking his place, Ohio State has a good chance of securing redemption against last season's natty champions.

CFB insider gets real on Ryan Day's future with OSU if it loses to Michigan in 2024

The Ohio State Buckeyes have revamped their roster this offseason by bringing in several talents from the transfer portal. Thus, the expectations from Day are high in 2024, especially in the rivalry game against the Wolverines.

College football analyst Josh Pate talked about what would happen if the Buckeyes lost to the Wolverines in 2024. During a recent episode of his podcast, he said a defeat would be bad for Ryan Day's future with the program and would further nullify his achievements in the upcoming season.

"What's the aftermath? Well, No. 1, it would be a disaster in Ohio State. It would be a disaster. There is this weird thing in college football that's both beautiful and terrifying. And that's the impact and weight of rivalry games," Pate said.
"If Ohio State loses to Michigan, I don't care what they did elsewhere in the season, it will be an illogical coversation for Ryan Day from that point out."

It will be interesting to see if Ohio State can finally get its revenge against the Wolverines. Both teams are scheduled to face each other in November.
