Lane Kiffin and his Ole Miss team will welcome Southeastern Conference newcomer Oklahoma to Oxford on Saturday. The Rebels (5–2, 1–2 SEC) are coming off an open week and are looking to bounce back from their disappointing loss to LSU in Baton Rouge in Week 7.
Ahead of the game this weekend, Lane Kiffin shared a picture of his family in a car with his dog Juice on his Instagram story. In the photo, Landry Kiffin is on the wheel while taking a selfie with the rest of the family.
The entire family, including the yellow labrador, is expected to be at the Vaught Hemingway Stadium on Saturday when the Rebels take on the Sooners.
Lane Kiffin says it was a tough open week
Ole Miss entered its open week with disappointment. The Rebels suffered a tough overtime loss in Baton Rouge despite dominating. Marking their second narrow loss, Lane Kiffin looked to fix this issue in the team during the open week and admitted it was a tough process.
“I think it was really tough initially because it's one thing if you go into a game and you feel like the team wasn't ready or has personnel issues all over the place," Kiffin said on Monday.
“There's a game we went in, took the lead, thought guys responded well in historically an extremely hard place [to play]. We let it get away at the end. That took a while."
The Rebels are on the fringe of the College Football Playoff picture, but hope remains alive. With some tough matchups left on the team’s schedule, the Rebels still have a path forward—if they manage to win out, they could potentially work their way into the CFP field.
Lane Kiffin wary of Oklahoma’s unpredictability on offense
Oklahoma dismissed Seth Littrell as offensive coordinator earlier this week due to offensive struggles. Tight end coach Joe Jon Finley succeeded him. With Finley having no history of playcalling, the Sooners's offensive setup will find it hard to predict Lane Kiffin.
“There’s no way to predict that,” Lane Kiffin said. “Usually they don’t change a whole lot when someone’s been there, and was the co-coordinator already. Even if there is, you can’t figure it out. There’s no magic formula to figure out what they’re thinking.”
Oklahoma ranks last in the Southeastern Conference in total offense with 288.1 yards per game. They’ve recorded the fewest rushing yards in the league with 785. Their passing game also struggles, with just 1,232 yards, placing them second-to-last in the conference, ahead of only Kentucky.
