Junior wide receiver Isaiah Bond, who took a transfer out of Nick Saban's Alabama to join Steve Sarkisian's Texas Longhorns, was productive last week in a 35-13 win against the Mississippi State Bulldogs. He caught five passes for 74 yards while also rushing for a 26-yard score, adding to his impressive season.
Much like his signal-caller, Arch Manning, Bond shared glimpses of his weekend on Instagram. The series of photos were from game-day action aside from one graffiti of him on a wall and another in front of a Lamborghini.
Coming from Buford High School as a high rated prospect, Isaiah Bond committed to play for the University of Alabama over Georgia and Florida. Under the tutelage of Nick Saban, who is now retired, Bond had 17 receptions for 220 yards and a touchdown.
The following year as a sophomore, Bond finished the season with 668 receiving yards and four touchdowns. He hopes to better his performance this season, and he has already caught three touchdowns so far.
Steve Sarkisian hails Isaiah Bond to bring speed to Texas
One of the key differences for the Texas Longhorns from last year to this year is their speedy offense, one which is fronted by transfer receivers like Isaiah Bond, Matthew Golden and Silas Bolden.
Giving props, especially to Bond, the Longhorns coach said:
"We pride ourselves on being a fast football team, and Isaiah is one of if not the fastest guys. For us, systematically, speed in our offense is really important."
Sarkisian always had eyes on getting Isaiah Bond on his team right from his high school. However, Alabama got his commitment but with Saban retiring, Bond decided to take his talents elsewhere, thereby landing in the Longhorns through the transfer portal.
“I think one thing that gets missed in a lot of this is we recruited Isaiah out of high school. He was a kid out of Buford High School in Georgia and we recruited him hard,” said Sarkisian in Feb.
“Key, as you know, we love having those dynamic playmakers, those guys that can possess some speed, that can create space and create explosive plays. And so we had a previous relationship with him when he initially decided to commit and to go to Alabama.”
With good talent at his disposal, Steve Sarkisian aims to lead the Longhorns to national championship game.
