The Pittsburgh Panthers matched up with the Toledo Rockets in the 2024 GameAbove Sports Bowl on Thursday. After respective 7-5 campaigns, the two schools will meet for just the fourth time in their history.

After a 7-0 start to the season, the Panthers came plummeting back down to earth, losing each of their final five games down the stretch of the season. Pitt closed its season out with a 34-23 loss versus Boston College back on Nov. 30.

Toledo saw similar struggles to Pitt after riding high to start the season. The Rockets opened the year with a 4-1 record but finished the season with a lackluster 3-4 record in their final seven games.

Toledo opened the game looking like the superior team, taking a 20-12 lead into the locker rooms at halftime. Looking to rebound, Pitt responded with an 18-point performance in the second half, taking the Rockets to overtime with momentum on their side.

In overtime, the two sides exchanged rushing touchdowns from their quarterbacks, forcing a second overtime period. The Rockets took a 40-37 lead with a 33-yard field goal but were matched with a field goal from Pitt, forcing a third overtime with the score at 40-40.

Each side converted their two-point attempts, bringing the score to 42-42 entering the fourth overtime. The officials were forced to clear the field twice in the fourth overtime after Toledo players celebrated, thinking they'd won. The two sides each converted, taking a 44-44 score into the second overtime.

Both sides converted in overtime No. 5, with Toledo remaining on the field for the sixth overtime. After converting, the Rockets held Pitt scoreless, securing a 48-46 win after a mind-boggling six overtime periods.
