Deion Sanders has been in the spotlight after the Buffs lost 36-14 to BYU in the Alamo Bowl on Saturday. Now, college sports analyst Jason Whitlock has dropped another bombshell about what the future holds for Coach Prime.
On Tuesday's episode of his "Extra Fearless" YouTube show, Whitlock said that Sanders could leave Colorado, as per his sources.
"According to someone who should know the ingredients, the situation is ripe, and it is right for Deion Sanders to exit Colorado after its 36-14 Alamo Bowl loss to BYU," Whitlock said. "This isn't a prediction. It's not someone saying it's going to happen. It's someone who is in the know that's followed the program real closely and says, 'Hey, I think the tea leaves are pointing towards Deion leaving Colorado.'" (Timestamp: 0:20)
"And this person told me this, because, going into the Alamo Bowl, Colorado was out of NIL money. Just doesn't have the budget for what Deion was doing."
In Sanders' second season at the helm, Colorado showed significant improvements, finishing with a 9-4 overall record. The Buffs had an underwhelming 4-8 record last season.
Apart from qualifying for a bowl game this year, Sanders' Colorado also pushed closely for a spot in the College Football Playoff until dropping out of the race in the final stretch of the regular season.
Deion Sanders dismissed talk of joining Dallas Cowboys in November
Due to his fine work at Colorado, Deion Sanders has garnered interest from a few NFL teams, including the Dallas Cowboys, as well as some top college football programs. However, Coach Prime signaled in November that he had no plans to leave CU.
"I'm happy where I am, man," Sanders told reporters in November when there were rumors about the Cowboys showing interest in him. "I've got a kickstand down. You know what a kickstand is? ... That means I'm resting. I'm good, I'm happy, I'm excited. I'm enthusiastic about where I am. I love it here, truly do."
While Sanders has reaffirmed that he plans to honor his Colorado contract, there are suggestions that he could leave the program once his children, Shedeur and Shilo, declare for the 2025 NFL draft.
