While head coach Ryan Day has been unable to lead the Ohio State Buckeyes to a national title in five seasons leading the program, they have consistently sat atop the Top 25 rankings and been perennial contenders. ESPN college football analyst Greg McElroy recently chose the Buckeyes as his choice for the top team in the nation entering the season.
Speaking on "Always College Football", the former Alabama Crimson Tide quarterback said:
"My No. 1 ranked team heading into 2024 is the Ohio State Buckeyes. Everyone is hungry, everyone is angry, everyone watched their rival win the national championship last year and that is a powerful, powerful thing.
"You look at the schedule and it's hard. It's difficult, no doubt about it, but if you look at the personnel, the weapons that have been added to this roster, that have been developed over the last couple of years, it would be really difficult not to feel great about what Ryan Day brings into the '24 season," McElroy continued.
"It does just feel like collectively at Ohio State there's a certain level of accountability that is being had throughout the roster. Guys feeling like, 'Hey, this is our time, it's time to go and do it, it's time to put up or shut up, we are going to do it this time,'" he added.
