Before they became NFL rivals, Joe Burrow and Patrick Queen were teammates with the LSU Tigers. They were part of the 2019 team that went on to become the undefeated national champs and hailed as one of the best college football teams of all time.
However, it was not all rainbows and sunshine for Burrow and Queen at LSU. In a video posted by Yerkavin Clips on YouTube in August, the Bengals QB talked about how he and Queen got into a fight during spring practice
It happened during a play when Queen defended Burrow and forced him to throw the ball away. He then stood up and smiled and clapped at his QB which resulted in their fight. Other LSU players and coaches then tried to calm the situation down.
"PQ was just talking s**t after a play," Burrow said. "And I wasn't really happy about getting hit play before," Burrow said. That was definitely an interesting day of spring practice. But I think I don't take any s**t."
Despite the tussle, both Burrow and Queen became key players for LSU during its championship run. During an appearance on Marlon Humphrey's "Punch Line" podcast in November, Patrick Queen also talked about the fight.
"It was at the point where we knew we were going to be so cold," Queen said. "They was lighting us up play after play, then we started getting stops. It got heated, hot summer day in Louisiana, we all know that. We just started blitzing to get Joe off the spot. A couple of us hit him a couple of times, I hit him one more time. And one thing led to another, and the next thing you know, we're on the sideline, I got him in a headlock and he's punching my ribs."
Joe Burrow once opened up about moment in LSU that made him realize his true potential
After three seasons with Ohio State, Joe Burrow played two seasons with the Tigers. In his appearance on the "Full Send Podcast" in April 2022, he shared the exact moment he knew he made the right choice to join LSU.
Burrow said that after his first season, he had a really good spring practice. His first season at LSU helped him realize his skills and full potential.
"I had a really good spring ball after my first year here," Burrow said. "The first year, I was trying to figure out how to play football again. I hadn't played football in three, three and a half years."
"So I was getting the feel of things again, remembering how to move in the pocket, make people miss. I hadn't done that in so long. That first year was just kind of a feeling-out process. Then that second year, it kind of all clicked for me."
During the 2019 national championship season, Burrow recorded 5,671 passing yards and 60 touchdown passes. He also won the Heisman Trophy. Joe Burrow was then drafted by the Cincinnati Bengals as the first overall pick in the 2020 NFL draft.
