The first half of this contest was dominated by the Buckeyes, who jumped out to a 7-0 lead after punching in the first touchdown on their second offensive drive. Purdue missed a field goal on the ensuing drive, which Ohio State capitalized on with a 13-play, 80-yard touchdown drive to take a 14-0 lead with under nine minutes left in the first half.
Ohio State forced a turnover on downs before a Jeremiah Smith receiving touchdown extended the Buckeyes lead to 21-0 going into halftime.
The Buckeyes continued their shutout effort in the third quarter, outscoring Purdue 17-0. Ohio State opened the second half with a 42-yard field goal, bringing the score to 24-0.
The Buckeyes forced a turnover on downs on the Boilermakers’s ensuing drive. They capitalized with a touchdown drive, capped off by a 19-yard scamper to the end zone from TreVeyon Henderson, extending their lead to 31-0 with three minutes remaining in the quarter.
Purdue received the kickoff following the Ohio State touchdown, but the Buckeyes’ defense forced a fumble returned for a touchdown, bringing the score to 38-0 in the fourth quarter.
After forcing a punt, the Buckeyes marched down the field in six plays, punching in a 10-yard touchdown with a catch from Emeka Egbuka. They extended their lead to 45-0 in the opening minute of the final period, mustering a win and advancing to 8-1 on the season.
