On Thursday, two Georgia Bulldogs players were arrested in two separate incidents. The players in question are linebacker Smael Mondon and offensive linesman Bo Hughley.
Mondon and Hughley join a growing list of Georgia Bulldogs players arrested for traffic-related incidents. There are 20 separate incidents involving the arrest of Bulldogs players since the beginning of 2023.
Since March, at least four players (including Mondon and Hughley) have run the wrong side of the law.
One of the more notable arrests has been of Trevor Etienne. Etienne, who transferred to the Bulldogs after having a strong season with the Florida Gators, was arrested for DUI and reckless driving in March. However, according to the Atlanta Journal Constitution, the DUI has been dropped.
Bulldogs coach Kirby Smart has not taken any action to prevent these incidents from happening. He has mostly said that the player will be "disciplined in-house" and used the University of Georgia's policy as an excuse.
However, the growing number of arrests of Georgia Bulldogs players raises questions about the culture that Smart and Co. are fostering.
How have people reacted to the culture Kirby Smart may have created in Georgia?
Many publications have concerns about the culture created by Kirby Smart within the Georgia Bulldogs.
One of these is the staff at Georgia 247, a reliable source for providing news about the Bulldogs program. Per reports on social media, writers are pressuring Smart to change the concerning culture within the team.
"Georgia 247 staff and Mods calling for Kirby Smart to start kicking kids off the squad with these driving incidents. They are saying enough is enough already it's out of control." - JBook.
However, many feel that because of the reputation and nature of the Southeastern Conference and the Bulldogs program, this will not happen.
"SEC lives by their own rules, Kirby isn't getting rid of any of them," a fan tweeted on X.
"Won’t happen. UGA NIL will just keep getting faster and faster cars for these kids even if more die," another tweeted.
"This would all over ESPN, Fox Sports, and national news if it was Ohio State," an X user tweeted.
Whatever happens, the Bulldogs appear to be growing a worrying culture that, if not resolved, will lead to worse performances on the field.
